MG Comet EV – Preparations Underway For India Launch

Earlier this month, MG Motor India revealed the name of their upcoming small electric vehicle — the Comet EV. Ahead of its launch, MG shared the results of its Urban Mobility Happiness Survey. To our surprise, the official communication didn’t mention the name of the Comet EV even once, despite the findings having a very close relation to the nuances of the Comet EV.

As per the Urban Mobility Happiness Survey conducted in association with Nielsen, 71% of Indian car owners travel either solo or with one passenger. The upcoming MG Comet EV is a 2-door, 4-seater mini EV targeted at intercity commuters. Furthermore, 74% of Indian car owners face difficulties finding parking spaces for their vehicles. The Comet EV is likely to measure under 3 metres in length and finding a parking space for such a compact vehicle shouldn’t be an issue.

The survey also found that 69% of the respondents consider the environment as an important factor while making a purchase decision. While the automotive industry continues to rely on petrol, CNG and diesel-powered engines, we have seen a big shift towards electric vehicles as well. The Comet EV will come with an all-electric drivetrain, which is likely to offer a claimed range of around 200km on a single charge.

MG are likely to launch the Comet EV in April 2023. It will target urban commuters looking for a small car to go from point A to B. Thanks to its compact dimensions, funky styling and electric drivetrain, it is likely to attract millennials. The MG Comet EV will go up against the likes of the Citroen eC3 and Tata Tiago EV in India.
