Volvo Trucks has expanded its electric vehicle portfolio with the launch of a new 14-tonne entry-level version of the Volvo FL Electric, specifically designed to meet the demands of urban transport and city logistics.
The Volvo FL Electric, one of the company’s earliest medium-duty trucks to feature a fully electric driveline, has already gained strong acceptance among transport operators for city-based deliveries. With compact dimensions, low noise levels and zero tailpipe emissions, the truck is well suited for navigating narrow city streets and operating in densely populated areas.
The newly introduced 14-tonne variant offers a fresh entry point in terms of payload and installed battery capacity, making it an efficient and cost-effective solution for inner-city operations. According to Volvo Trucks, the model allows customers to select battery capacity based on actual operational needs, helping maximize payload capacity and overall profitability.
The 14-tonne Volvo FL Electric is available in multiple wheelbases, axle configurations and battery setups, enabling high levels of customization. The battery placement has been engineered to avoid interference with body installations, while the option of a reduced vehicle width of 2.4 metres enhances maneuverability in urban environments.
The new battery configuration introduced with this model will also be available across Volvo’s wider electric truck range, including the 16- and 18-tonne FL Electric and the Volvo FE Electric models with gross combination weights of up to 26 tonnes.
According to Volvo Trucks, the 14-tonne FL Electric offers a driving range of up to 200 kilometres, depending on operating conditions such as load, driving style and ambient temperature. The truck features a 180 kW electric motor, 145 kWh of usable battery energy, and supports DC fast charging, enabling a 20 to 80 percent charge in approximately 1.28 hours. Production of the new model is scheduled to begin in the second half of 2026.
