Octillion Completes Solar Conversion at Indian Battery Manufacturing Facility

Octillion has completed its shift to solar energy at one of its battery system manufacturing sites in India. The solar-powered EV facility now runs entirely on carbon-free electricity. The change marks a major step in Octillion’s effort to support a cleaner battery production lifecycle, it said.

“India’s EV market is accelerating rapidly, and we’re committed to ensuring this growth is truly sustainable,” said Paul Beach, global president of Octillion. “By converting our manufacturing to solar power, we’re closing the loop. We’re producing the clean energy storage solutions of tomorrow, using clean energy today. This is just the beginning of our journey toward our goal of carbon-neutral operations across India facilities by 2027.”

Solar-Powered EV Facility

This site is the first Octillion factory to run solely on solar energy. It anchors a larger company plan to make all India-based operations carbon neutral by 2027. The facility measures about 8,200 sq. m., roughly two football fields. It produces 3GWh of annual battery capacity for the fast-growing Indian EV market.

Rooftop solar panels now supply about 545MWh of clean electricity each year. That output meets the plant’s full power demand. The Pune facility opened in June 2023 and solar installation began in June 2024. The plant reached full solar operation in July, completing the transition in 13 months.

Production Growth and Local EV Market Support

“Accelerating cleaner, more efficient transportation in India is central to our mission as a global battery company,” said Nikhil Parchure, senior VP at Octillion. “With three large-scale battery manufacturing facilities in India, two in Pune and one in Gujarat, Octillion is uniquely positioned to serve the fast-growing needs of India’s electric vehicle sector; in volume, cost, and convenience. Over the last decade, we have created a robust national supply chain that India’s automotive sector can rely on.”

Parchure added, “We will continue to advance our efforts in India and globally by providing cutting-edge, safe battery systems, working to leave the least environmental impact possible in the transportation sector.”
