Nio Ties With Razer To Roll Out Tailored EVs For E-sports Lovers

Chinese electric vehicle maker Nio has kicked off cooperations with Razer, one of the world’s leaders in high-performance gaming hardware and systems, Nio announced in a press release.

As the first fruit of their partnership, a customized version of the Nio ES6, with distinct Razer elements, is already displayed at the China Joy 2019 (China Digital Entertainment Expo and Conference), a fair for game lovers that opened today in Shanghai. A total of 88 such cars will be produced.

Nio is opening an online ordering channel for this customized model, priced at RMB 467,800 (USD 67,500). ES6’s other ordinary models are priced between RMB 358,000 and RMB 448,000.

The move may help the Chinese EV maker to differentiate its products from various EV models in China, especially when the sector is getting increasingly competitive. US EV maker Tesla has gained growth momentum in the first half of the year in China by introducing its mass-market Model 3, while the company is building its Shanghai plant with the intention to put out cheaper cars,  between 250,000 to 500,000 new vehicles a year.

Nio said it delivered 3,553 ES8 and ES6 vehicles in the second quarter of 2019, exceeding by 18.4% the midpoint of the company’s prior quarterly guidance range of 2,800 to 3,200 cars.

The Chinese electric vehicle maker still made a net loss of USD 390.9 million in the first quarter of 2019, representing a decrease of 24.1% from the fourth quarter of 2018.
