PCMC Charged up For 22 EV Charging Stations

With the increasing presence of electric vehicles in the twin towns, the Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation is aiming to establish charging stations across 22 locations in collaboration with private entities. The PCMC issued tender notices three times in this regard earlier but didn’t get any response from the contractors.

Following three unsuccessful tender processes over eighteen months, the municipal authority plans to revise the terms and conditions and initiate its fourth issuance by the end of the month.

With a record of 30,000 electric vehicles registered in the city, the municipality aims to facilitate charging facilities directly for vehicle users.

The strategic 22 locations earmarked for EV charging stations span across key areas. Under the proposed model, private agencies intend to furnish electric vehicle charging facilities at competitive rates, following a build-operate-and-own framework.

The municipal corporation will solely provide space to the designated agencies. These agencies will be responsible for sourcing power from the Maharashtra State Power Distribution Company, establishing EV charging stations, and overseeing their operation and maintenance for an eight-year term at their own expense.

As part of the arrangement, the agency is obligated to contribute a portion of the revenue sharing at the ceiling rate to the municipal corporation. The municipality aims to engage an agency willing to offer the highest revenue-sharing percentage.
