One EV charging spot must be provided for every 5 parking spaces

The government of Haryana has mandated EV chargers in new buildings. The Haryana Town and Country Planning Department has amended the building code, making EV charging infrastructure mandatory in residential and non-residential buildings.

As per the new rules, group housing societies, cooperative housing projects, and residential complexes managed by Resident Welfare Associations (RWAs) must provide one EV charging spot for every 5 parking spaces where parking is available for at least 10 cars, and all parking spaces must be equipped with EV charging points.

One EV charging station must be provided for every three parking spaces in non-residential buildings like malls, hotels, and office spaces. Also, all parking slots must have EV charging points.

EV chargers can be installed in basements and stilt parking areas as long as they comply with fire and electrical safety norms. The charging infrastructure will be exempted from Floor Area Ratio (FAR) calculations and won’t affect the built-up area.
