BillionE and Hindalco Launch Gujarat’s First Heavy-Duty Electric Freight Corridor

Billion Electric Mobility (BillionE), India’s pioneering E-Mobility-as-a-Service (eMaaS) platform, in partnership with Hindalco Industries’ Birla Copper Division, has launched Gujarat’s first heavy-duty electric freight corridor. Covering 160 kilometres between Dahej and Asoj, the corridor represents a major step forward in sustainable industrial logistics and India’s broader clean mobility transition.

The initiative will see a fleet of 15 Ashok Leyland electric trucks, each with a 55-tonne capacity, deployed in phases—10 introduced immediately and five more within three months. Designed for zero-emission material transport, the project supports India’s energy security goals by reducing dependence on imported oil.

“Launching this heavy-duty electric freight corridor is more than just a milestone—it’s a transformation in how India moves goods at scale,” said Mr. Sanjeev Kulkarni, CEO, BillionE Mobility. “Our partnership with Hindalco demonstrates that industrial transport can be efficient, sustainable, and cost-effective. This is the first step toward a national network of zero-emission freight corridors.”

Echoing this sentiment, Mr. Bishnu Agarwal, Functional Head, F&C Copper Business, Hindalco Industries Ltd, said, “As logistics form the backbone of our business, transitioning to EVs allows us to cut emissions, improve operational efficiency, and lead the shift toward cleaner, smarter mobility.”

To support seamless operations, BillionE will utilise ChargeZone’s charging infrastructure with stations strategically located in Karjan, Bharuch, and along the corridor. Following the successful rollout, additional electric trucks will be deployed for secondary transport across Vapi, Daman, and Silvassa—further strengthening Gujarat’s growing zero-emission freight network.
