Tata Motors, India’s leading commercial vehicle manufacturer, has launched a fleet of electric buses for workforce transportation at its Pantnagar plant in Uttarakhand. The fully indigenously manufactured, zero-emission buses are equipped with advanced battery systems and the latest technology. Tata Ultra 9m electric buses, managed by Tata Motors’ subsidiary TML Smart City Mobility Solutions Limited (TSCMSL), will serve the transportation needs of employees at the facility.
This e-bus service is designed to provide safe, comfortable, and eco-friendly commuting options for over 5,000 employees, reducing the carbon footprint by saving approximately 1,100 tonnes of CO2 emissions each year. The buses will be charged using electricity generated from a 16MW solar power plant, ensuring a completely green operation.
Vishal Badshah, Vice President and Head – Operations, Tata Motors Commercial Vehicles, stated, “The deployment of electric buses for workforce transportation is an important step towards our goal of achieving net-zero greenhouse gas emissions by 2045. We are integrating sustainability into every aspect of our operations, from sourcing and development to manufacturing and day-to-day functioning. Pantnagar plant has already achieved Zero Waste to Landfill certification and water-positive certification, and the addition of this electric fleet further reinforces its role as a sustainability leader.”
The Tata Ultra EV 9m electric buses feature an electric drivetrain, regenerative braking systems, and Intelligent Transport Systems, underscoring Tata Motors’ leadership in the electric mass mobility sector.
