Volvo has unveiled a new variant of the XC40 Recharge, significantly reducing the cost of its electric vehicle (EV) with a starting price of Rs 54.95 lakh, excluding showroom fees, in India. This means the new single motor version brings down the price by nearly Rs 3 lakhs compared to the dual motor equipped version.
As the petrol XC40 is gradually being discontinued, this model remains the most affordable option for the car. With this new launch, the Volvo electric car range now lines up with the XC40 Recharge Twin Motor, XC40 Recharge Single Motor, and C40 Recharge Twin Motor.
The single motor XC40 Recharge has a range of 475kms as per WLTP while the ICAT testing range is a claimed 592 kms on a single full charge. Unlike the dual motor version, the single motor one produces less power at 238hp and 420Nm. However, it is still reasonably quick with a 0-100 km/h time of 7.3 seconds. The top speed is 180km/h while the battery warranty is 8 years/160,000 km. The ground clearance of the XC40 Recharge is 175mm which includes kerb weight and the driver.
Specifications
In terms of features, the XC40 single motor has a frunk along with leather-free interiors, LED lighting, Google Built-in (Google Assistant, Google Play, Google Maps), an Air Purifier System with PM 2.5 sensor, powered seats, a Reversing Camera plus ADAS features like Blind Spot Information System with Cross-traffic alert, Adaptive Cruise Control, Pilot Assist, Lane Keeping Aid, Collision Mitigation Support, etc. There is also wireless charging but it misses out on features like Pixel headlamps, a 360-degree camera, etc. The more competitive pricing means that it undercuts other luxury EV SUVs now which mostly have a dual motor only.
