Electric two-wheeler startup River inaugurated its first dealership in Bengaluru’s JP Nagar. The showroom has the Indie electric scooter on display, along with its range of accessories and company merchandise. It also has an adjoining service centre.
The Bengaluru-based company has secured fresh funding with the most recent one led by the Al Futtaim Group in 2023. Other major investors are Lowercarbon Capital, Toyota Ventures, Maniv Mobility, and Trucks VC. The company was founded in March 2021, followed by the launch of its first e-scooter Indie in 2023.
Praised for its practicality, the Indie boasts a spacious seat, roomy floorboard, and a vast 43-litre underseat boot. The ride and handling is quite well suited for the Indian roads as well due to the plush suspension setup, 14-inch wheels at both ends as we found when we rode it.
The Indie is driven by a 6.7kW mid-mounted motor powered by a 4kWh battery pack, offering a claimed IDC range of 120km. There are multiple riding modes on offer as well, with Ride mode that meets most daily commuting needs. Priced at Rs 1.25 lakh (ex-showroom, Bengaluru), the Indie rivals the likes of Ola S1 Air (Rs 1.23 lakh), Ather 450S (Rs 1.10 lakh), Bajaj Chetak Premium (Rs 1.36 lakh) and TVS iQube (Rs 1.34 lakh).
