MOL and Volvo Penta have launched trials for the groundbreaking electric 4X4 RoRo tractor, the RME225, at the Port of Ghent, in collaboration with DFDS. This pioneering vehicle features a Volvo Penta driveline with three battery packs totaling 270 kWh, an EPT802 gearbox, and two 200 kW propulsion motors, aimed at providing a sustainable alternative to diesel models.
The RME225 is designed to operate efficiently for a full shift, enhancing productivity for fleet owners and terminal operators. DFDS, a key player in Northern European shipping and logistics, supports the trials by offering a dedicated operator and monitoring space, reinforcing their commitment to reducing environmental impact.
Conrad Verplancke, sales engineer at MOL, highlighted the rigorous range tests being conducted to ensure the RME225 can handle heavy loads under demanding port schedules. Jeroen Overvelde, area sales manager at Volvo Penta, emphasized the electric tractor’s competitive performance and potential cost savings.
