In an important step towards promoting sustainable transportation, MG Motor India and Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (HPCL have joined forces to boost India’s electric vehicle (EV) charging infrastructure.
This strategic partnership aims to install fast chargers across the nation, making electric travel more convenient for Indian consumers.
This collaboration is set to deploy 50kW/60kW DC fast chargers at strategic locations, including highways and cities, enhancing the charging network for EV users on long journeys and city commutes.
The chargers, compatible with the CCS 2 charging standard like the MG ZS EV, will be accessible to all EV users. They can locate these stations through the MyMG App or the HPCL network discovery tool, integrating technology for ease of access. Gaurav Gupta, Chief Growth Officer at MG Motor India, emphasized the importance of a comprehensive EV ecosystem for the successful adoption of electric vehicles.
He stated that the partnership with HPCL marks a significant step towards expanding India’s EV charging infrastructure, fostering greater confidence among EV owners and potential buyers. Shri Rajdip Ghosh, Chief General Manager at HPCL, highlighted HPCL’s commitment to sustainability by aiming to set up 5,000 EV charging stations by December 2024. This partnership will leverage MG’s vehicle base to optimize the utilization of HPCL’s chargers, ensuring a strategic and customer-friendly expansion of the EV charging infrastructure across India. This collaboration not only aims to enhance the EV charging network but also offers loyalty rewards and exclusive promotions to customers, encouraging the shift towards electric mobility. MG Motor India’s proactive approach in the EV sector is evident from its early initiatives to create a strong charging infrastructure. Prior to launching its second car, the fully-electric MG ZS EV, the company had already begun developing an extensive charging network. With over 15,000 charging touchpoints installed across the country, including partnerships with Tata Power, Delta Electronics, and Fortum, MG has established a comprehensive charging ecosystem.
Furthermore, collaborations with BPCL, Jio-BP, and Adani TotalEnergies E-Mobility, as well as an MoU with subsidiaries of the Epsilon Group, underline MG’s dedication to enhancing EV infrastructure and battery recycling efforts.
