Ionity Opens 4th High Power Charging Site In UK

Ionity and the Extra MSA Group have expanded the UK high power charging network with a 350kW charging station for electric vehicles at Extra’s recently constructed Leeds Skelton Lake Services pit stop close to Leeds.

The new Ionity station is located on the M1 J45 east of Leeds and boast six charge columns each able to deliver up to 350 kW. Leeds Skelton Lake is Ionity’s fourth station to be launched in the UK with seven others planned to follow in 2020 in co-operation with Extra MSA Group, states the press release. These will include locations at the M40 J2 Beaconsfield and M25 J9-J10 Cobham Services.

The Leeds stop is first on the Isles to feature the latest Ionity chargers debuted at the IAAlast year. These stations use halo lighting for the display for better legibility. Besides, the position and design of the charging cable makes connecting the car much more comfortable than current units, claims Ionity.

The joint venture of mostly German carmakers is planning a total of 40 locations in Great Britain as part of its target to install 400 high power charging sites across Europe. The strategy relies on location partners such as Extra MSA or Shell, among others.
