Indian motorcycle giant TVS has expanded its global footprint by launching the TVS X electric scooter in Colombia, only a month after its Indian debut. The scooter’s arrival could be a turning point for the Latin American country, where electric two-wheelers are still a rarity.
The scooter boasts a range of about 87.5 miles (~141 kilometers) on a single charge
Auteco, the renowned Colombian motorcycle distributor, will manage TVS X sales in the country. The distributor is already popular for offering affordable and efficient small-displacement vehicles, and the TVS X aims to fit right into this lineup. This move aligns with TVS’s global aspirations, as articulated by Sudarshan Venu, who promises a “redefined mobility experience” via the X model.
One of the standout features of the TVS X is its performance. Comparable to a 150cc internal combustion scooter, the electric powerhouse offers 11 kilowatts, roughly equal to 14.3 horsepower. It promises rapid acceleration and a top speed of 65 mph. The scooter’s three unique ride modes—Xealth, Xtride, and Xonic—add a level of customization not commonly seen in electric two-wheelers in the region. Fast-charging tech and a sturdy 4.44 kilowatt-hour battery make it even more appealing, boasting a range of up to 87.5 miles.
In terms of innovation, the TVS X comes with a RAM air intake system. This helps cool the electric motor and allows for sustained peak performance. It seems like TVS has aimed to address the core needs of Colombian commuters—efficiency, reliability, and affordability—all while providing a sustainable alternative to traditional vehicles.
Although pricing details for Colombia are still under wraps, the Indian price tag is set at approximately $3,030 USD. As TVS takes a bold step in making electric vehicles more accessible in Colombia, it could very well pave the way for a greener transportation future in Latin America.
