Foxconn Plans To Set Up EV Production Line In India

Taiwanese contract manufacturer Foxconn has said in its latest annual report that it plans to set up a production line for two-wheeled electric vehicles (EVs) in India. The company intends to use the facility to cater to EV demand across South-East Asia.
“In terms of two-wheeled electric vehicles, the electric drive system production line in Taichung focuses on high automation, high self-production rate and consistent quality. Based on this experience, India will also assist with establishment of a production line this year to provide two-wheeled electric vehicle manufacturing services,” the company said in the report. Several states are said to be vying for the project, including Karnataka, Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh. A Karnataka government official said Foxconn wants to first tie-up with a local EV partner for whom they can produce the vehicles before finalising a location.
The state’s large & medium industries and infrastructure development minister M B Patil said Foxconn is in constant touch with his ministry. “They have proposed an EV initiative in the state. I will discuss this with my officials and pursue it,” he said. Foxconn recently committed to a large electronics manufacturing facility in Bengaluru. A Foxconn subsidiary in India, Bharat FIH, already helps in supply chain management and raw material procurement for EV companies.
