As the world marks World EV Day, India’s electric three-wheeler segment stands out as the most visible face of the country’s clean-mobility transition. No longer a niche category, e-3Ws have become the backbone of first- and last-mile logistics and passenger connectivity, moving everything from e-commerce parcels and LPG cylinders to daily commuters across congested urban and semi-urban India.

On this year’s World EV Day, here are top 5 electric three-wheelers that illustrate how manufacturers are engineering purpose-built solutions for India’s last-mile economy.

1. EKA AVI 6S – India’s First and Only Electric Three-Wheeler with D+6 Passenger Seating

The EKA AVI 6S (previously known as EKA 6S) is India’s first electric three-wheeler with a steering wheel, offering a driver-plus-six (D+6) seating configuration. Its steering-wheel architecture, combined with higher passenger capacity, delivers a more car-like driving and passenger experience, redefining what a three-wheeler can offer.

The vehicle is equipped with a 16.1 kWh Lithium Ferro Phosphate (LFP) battery and provides a claimed range of 175 km with a single charge. It has a peak power of 10 kW, 65 Nm peak torque and a top speed of 49 kmph and 21% gradeability.

The EKA AVI 6S supports both AC and DC charging, offering flexibility based on the user’s needs. It takes approximately five hours to charge using a 3-pin 16A AC charger and around two hours with DC fast charging.

It is equipped with a transaxial eAxel chassis, ladder-frame chassis, rack-and-pinion steering, smart pedal technology and regenerative braking. The passenger-focused features include ergonomic seating, a low step-in height, rear luggage capacity and urban-oriented suspension, for enhanced comfort and convenience.

EKA provides an AMC for the 1st year, a six-year warranty or a warranty of 1,50,000 kms, whichever is earlier on the vehicle and battery.

2. Mahindra UDO – A New Take on Urban Electric Mobility

Mahindra’s latest electric passenger three-wheeler, the UDO, brings a fresh approach to last-mile mobility with its aerodynamic design, modern features and focus on driver comfort. Built on a monocoque construction, it aims to redefine the traditional auto-rickshaw experience.

The UDO is powered by an 11.7 kWh lithium-ion battery and delivers 10 kW of peak power and 52 Nm of peak torque. It offers a claimed real-world range of 200 km and an ARAI-certified range of 265 km on a single charge. The vehicle has a top speed of 55 kmph and comes with a D+3 seating configuration.

The electric three-wheeler features multiple drive modes including Range, Ride and Race, along with regenerative braking, Hill Hold Assist, Reverse Throttle and Creep Mode. Mahindra also offers a warranty of six years or 1,50,000 km, whichever is earlier.

3. EKA AVI 3S – Compact Electric Mobility for Urban Commutes

The EKA AVI 3S (previously known as EKA 3S) is a light passenger electric three-wheeler designed for efficient last-mile connectivity in urban environments. Featuring a driver-plus-three (D+3) seating configuration, it is aimed at operators looking for a compact and sustainable mobility solution.

The vehicle is powered by a 10.75 kWh Lithium Ferro Phosphate (LFP) battery and delivers a range (real) of 190 km on a single charge. It produces 8 kW of peak power and 44 Nm of peak torque, while offering a top speed of 49 kmph and 21% gradeability.

The EKA AVI 3S supports single-phase AC charging/home charging. Charging takes about 4 hours through a standard home charging setup. The vehicle also features regenerative braking, hill-hold assist, rear luggage space and a ladder-frame chassis for improved durability and ride comfort.

4. Bajaj GoGo P70 – Long Range for Commercial Use

The Bajaj GoGo P70 focuses heavily on range, an important factor for commercial operators. Its P7012 version gets a 12.1 kWh LFP battery and offers a claimed certified range of 259 km. It has a top speed of 50 kmph and 33% gradeability.

The vehicle comes with Eco, Power, Climb and Park Assist modes. Other features include a PMS motor, two-speed AMT, regenerative braking, hill-hold assist, telematics, USB charging and a digital instrument cluster.

5. Piaggio Apé E-City Ultra – A Familiar Name Goes Electric

Piaggio’s Apé has been a familiar name in India’s three-wheeler market. The Apé E-City Ultra brings the brand’s passenger vehicle into the electric space. It gets a 10.2 kWh lithium-ion battery, producing up to 9.5 kW of power and 45 Nm of torque. The vehicle offers a typical on-road range of 205 ± 5 km and 28% gradeability.

With a driver-plus-three (D+3) layout, it is aimed at urban passenger transport, where compact size and ease of movement are important.

As India accelerates towards its global zero-emission targets, electric three-wheelers remain the undisputed backbone of sustainable, accessible, and profitable last-mile transportation.
