Jupiter Electric Mobility Bolsters EV Portfolio with Key Log9 Acquisition in Railway and Truck Batteries
Jupiter Wagons Limited (JWL) has strengthened its position in India’s electric mobility sector by acquiring the railway and electric truck battery divisions from Log9 Materials. This strategic acquisition, announced by Jupiter Electric Mobility (JEM), JWL’s EV subsidiary, expands its portfolio with innovative battery technology solutions for both the electric truck and railway segments.
The acquisition includes Log9’s production and engineering teams specialising in these batteries, who will now contribute to JEM’s capabilities, along with Log9’s advanced Devanahalli manufacturing facility in Bangalore. The move enables JEM to integrate in-house battery production, critical for its electric light commercial vehicles (e-LCVs), while enhancing competitiveness in the rapidly growing EV market.
For Jupiter Wagons, this acquisition significantly boosts their rail product offerings as they expand into railway battery applications, building on successful pilot projects with Indian Railways and recent orders for Vande Bharat batteries. According to JWL Managing Director Vivek Lohia, the acquisition isn’t merely an expansion; it reflects a commitment to sustainable mobility solutions in both the EV and railway sectors.
By acquiring Log9’s battery assets, JEM aims to advance its technology stack and manufacturing capacities, driving forward India’s electrification journey in the automotive and railway domains. The strategic addition of skilled engineering talent and scalable production aligns with JWL’s growth goals and India’s increasing focus on sustainable transportation.
