Xpeng’s (NYSE: XPEV) new flagship sedan, the P7+, appears to be getting good initial acceptance, with the Chinese electric vehicle (EV) maker sharing strong order figures.
The P7+ had received 31,528 firm orders, breaking records for all other models in Xpeng’s history, the company announced today on Weibo.
Xpeng launched the P7+ at an event that began at 7:30 pm Beijing time on November 7, and announced pricing and opened up ordering at around 9:00 pm Beijing time.
This means that the P7+ received 31,528 orders with non-refundable deposits in the first three hours of its official launch.
Last night, Xpeng chairman and CEO He Xiaopeng said the sedan received more than 10,000 firm orders in the first 12 minutes of its launch.
Xpeng is offering two regular variants of the P7+ with starting prices of RMB 186,800 ($26,150) and RMB 198,800 respectively. There was also a limited edition of the model with a starting price of RMB 218,800, limited to 500 units.
The limited edition of the P7+ is sold out and the variant is no longer displayed on the Xpeng App. Customers who order the two regular variants of the model now will have to wait 7-10 weeks for delivery.
The P7+ is a mid-to-large-sized electric sedan with a length, width and height of 5,056 mm, 1,937 mm and 1,512 mm respectively and a wheelbase of 3,000 mm.
These dimensions are larger than those of the Xpeng P7i sedan, which measures 4,888 mm in length, 1,896 mm in width and 1,450 mm in height, with a wheelbase of 2,998 mm.
It is powered by lithium iron phosphate batteries from Eve Energy, with the entry variant having a pack capacity of 60.7 kWh and a CLTC range of up to 615 kilometers. The long-range version has a battery pack capacity of 76.3 kWh and a CLTC range of up to 725 kilometers.
The model is based on the 800 V high-voltage platform and can be charged from 0 to 80 percent in 20 minutes when using fast charging.
It is only available in Max version and comes standard with Xpeng’s driver assistance system, with XNGP (Xpeng navigation guided pilot) functionality available upon delivery of the vehicle.
Xpeng emphasized yesterday that the P7+ is being built at its plant in Guangzhou, not in Zhaoqing like the Mona M03, so P7+ production won’t be affected by the Mona M03’s capacity crunch.
