Ola Electric is going all out in August and has teased a new variant of an electric scooter, which could be a more affordable iteration of the S1 Air e-scooter.
Remember when we said that Ola is planning to launch a Classic variant of the S1 Pro? It turns out that actually the previously teased variant could instead be the EV maker’s most affordable offering yet, based on the S1 Air.
While it will share the same base and architecture as the S1 Air, it will observe several cost-cutting measures including minimalist bodywork and panels, somewhat similar to more affordable e-scooters like the now-discontinued BGauss A2. As you can see in the teaser, the teased EV gets a small headlight nacelle with an exposed handlebar, and the mirrors are simple round units.
Apart from that it may also skip out on some features and could come equipped with a TFT console, but not a touchscreen one. And as one can see in the teaser, the e-scooter gets a chunky switchgear, so expect it to feature navigation buttons. However, in this affordable e-scooter segment, it should still flaunt more features than its competitors.
Moving on to the specs – expect it to be a high-speed scooter, capable of achieving top speeds of 75kmph with hopefully around 100km range.
Interestingly, Ola had originally launched the S1 Air at around Rs 85,000, to cater to the affordable e-scooter segment; however, the revision in the FAME 2 subsidy pushed the e-scooter to over the Rs 1-lakh mark. And with the upcoming scooter, Ola might try to keep its promise to have a product with a price tag of around Rs 85,000 in its portfolio.
It is set to debut on August 15 and will directly rival petrol-powered scooters like Honda Activa and TVS Jupiter and other EVs including BGuass B8, Hero Electric Optima and Okinawa Praise Pro.
