Olectra Greentech, a prominent player in the electric vehicle (EV) industry, is keen to participate in the Prime Minister’s e-Bus Programme, which is expected to float a tender for some 10,000 electric buses soon.
In a recent interview with CNBC-TV18, KV Pradeep, Chairman and Managing Director (CMD) of Olectra Greentech, said that the much-anticipated e-Bus Programme could see tenders being released as early as next month. This program, a cornerstone of India’s push for sustainable urban mobility, aims to introduce 10,000 electric buses into the country’s public transportation system.
“10,000 units is the requirement of the PM e-Bus programme which the government of India has announced recently. The Ministry of Housing and Urban Development is currently in discussion with various stakeholders, and probably by next month, the government is likely to come up with this tender,” he said.
Olectra Greentech’s commitment to engage in India’s electric transportation system is evident in its impressive order book. Pradeep had earlier said that the company currently holds orders for 9,000 electric buses. Over the next 24 to 30 months, Olectra Greentech is set to deliver at least 1,200 of these buses.
To support the growing demand for electric buses, Olectra Greentech is making substantial investments in manufacturing infrastructure. The Telangana Government has allocated a sprawling 150-acre piece of land in Hyderabad to the company for the establishment of a world-class manufacturing facility. Pradeep explained that this facility will play a pivotal role in their ambitious expansion plans.
He further revealed that the company is diligently working towards creating a state-of-the-art manufacturing facility in Hyderabad. This facility, spanning 150 acres, is expected to have a production capacity of 5,000 buses or trucks a year.
