MG Motor India Has Patented Wuling Binguo EV, Expected to Launch this Year

MG Motor India has recently filed a design patent for the Wuling Binguo EV, indicating potential plans to introduce this sub-4 metre electric hatchback to the Indian market. Slightly larger than the Tata Tiago EV, the Wuling Binguo measures 3950 mm in length, 1708 mm in width and 1580 mm in height.

The Wuling Binguo EV gets a rounded design that makes it look unconventional. Its exterior features include large single-pod headlamps and a blanked-out grille at the front, a coupe-like roofline and wraparound LED tail lights. The EV gets a modern interior, boasting dual-tone finishes, dual screens and a two-spoke steering wheel.

Internationally, the Binguo offers three powertrain options. The base model is equipped with a 30 kW electric motor and a 17.3 kWh battery, providing a range of 203 km. A more powerful variant features a 50 kW electric motor paired with a 31.9 kWh battery, delivering a range of 333 km based on the New European Driving Cycle (NEDC) standards. In 2023, Wuling introduced a version with a 37.9 kWh Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) battery, extending the vehicle’s range to 410 km on a single charge.

The filing of the design patent by MG Motor India suggests strategic moves towards expanding their electric vehicle lineup in our country. As the Indian market increasingly shifts towards sustainable mobility solutions, the potential introduction of the Wuling Binguo could offer consumers a new, competitively sized option in the electric hatchback segment. Further details and official announcements are awaited to confirm the Binguo’s specifications and availability in India.

Currently, MG offers the Comet and ZS all-electric vehicles in its portfolio in India. They are planning to introduce a range of new EVs to gather more attention and market share in the EV space. The Wuling Binguo will get a new name in India from MG and it will be positioned between the Comet and ZS EV.
