Maruti Suzuki, the largest carmaker in India, is preparing to enter the electric vehicle (EV) market with the launch of six new electric cars. The lineup includes the highly anticipated eVX, Hustler, WagonR EV, and Fronx EV, with two more compact SUVs in the pipeline.
The Maruti Suzuki eVX is the brand’s first fully-electric vehicle in India. Unveiled at Auto Expo 2023, this mid-size electric SUV stands out with its futuristic design. It features a sleek coupe-like silhouette, measuring 4,300mm in length, 1,800mm in width, and 1,600mm in height. It is equipped with a 60kWh battery pack, offering a remarkable driving range of up to 550km.
The Suzuki Hustler, originally a Kei car in Japan, will make its debut as an all-electric offering in the Indian market. Details about the Hustler EV are limited, but it is expected to share its powertrain with the Wagon R EV prototype. With a sub-30kWh battery pack, it is estimated to have a driving range of around 250km.
The Maruti Suzuki Wagon R EV, initially planned as the most affordable electric vehicle, faced some challenges but has been tested on Indian roads. It features a modified design with low-mounted headlamps and a redesigned bumper. It is also likely to have a sub-30kWh battery pack, offering a driving range similar to the Hustler EV.
Maruti Suzuki has hinted at the development of the Fronx EV, a compact crossover SUV. The design is expected to resemble the petrol-powered Fronx, with some EV-specific highlights. Inside, the cabin is expected to be similar to the ICE version, with minor changes. Equipment levels may include a head-up display, wireless charger, touchscreen infotainment system, and a parking camera.
In addition to the confirmed electric vehicles, Maruti Suzuki plans to expand its electric lineup with two more compact SUVs. While details are not yet available, these models are expected to cater to the demand for stylish, efficient, and eco-friendly vehicles in the Indian market.
Maruti Suzuki’s foray into the electric vehicle market marks an important step towards a greener future. With their unique designs and impressive features, these upcoming electric vehicles are set to make a splash in the Indian automotive industry.
