Indus Towers to Foray into EV Charging Infrastructure Sector; Launches Pilot Charging Stations in Gurugram and Bengaluru
The biggest player in the telecom infrastructure segment of India, Indus Towers, is soon to foray into the EV charging market. The company said this on 23 January, 2025. Having gained approval from the Board of Directors, it has marked a big deal of entry into a totally new line of business. This move comes at a time when India is stepping up efforts to promote the adoption of EVs and build the required infrastructure for such a shift.
Aligning with National Initiatives
It has very vibrantly encouraged electric vehicles as part and parcel of its much larger strategy to ward off pollution and reduce dependence on fossil fuels. Pilot Launches in Major Urban Centers by Indus Towers
The company has rolled out pilot EV charging stations in Gurugram and Bengaluru. It chose both of these locations as major cities that have been the most prominent urban cities, with increased demand for the electric vehicle ecosystem. The purpose of these pilot programs is to observe the operational feasibility and collect necessary data on usage behavior and patterns for future extension. The charging station will be fitted with fast-charging technology, in a bid to minimize downtime for EV users. Indus Towers further plans to include smart technologies that allow the user to locate available charging points through mobile applications, thus enhancing the total user experience.

Indus Towers’ entry into the EV charging market has attracted mostly positive reactions from industry experts and stakeholders. Industry experts see it as a massive step toward filling one of the biggest gaps preventing the adoption of electric vehicles-the lack of sufficient charging infrastructure. Experts believe that Indus Tower’s experience spanning over 234,643 telecom towers across 22 circles in India will be good enough for it to start from scratch. Company’s operational competence can be fine-tuned towards the specific nature of the EV charging scene.
