India New Launch

Indian Startup Raptee Energy is Preparing to Unveil the New E-Moto

Electric motorcycles are taking on all sorts of interesting shapes and sizes, and it goes without saying that the future of the two-wheeled mobility space is very electric. That said, we’ve seen countless electric innovations from Indian manufacturers. From the more practical scooters such as the Ola S1 to the performance-oriented machines of the Ultraviolette, there is no shortage of electric vehicle developments coming out of the Asian country.

Raptee Energy is yet another emerging player in India’s burgeoning electric motorcycle industry. The company recently presented its latest innovation at its Global Investors Meet (GIM) in Tamil Nadu. Here, the company presented an interesting electric motorcycle that is due to hit India’s roads. At the time of writing, the bike did not yet have a name, so we will refer to it simply as the Raptee electric motorcycle. During GIM, Raptee presented the inner workings of its electric motorcycle via a “transparent” display, showing all the bike’s inner workings and where they are housed inside the bike.

Raptee Energy claims that the electric bike performs quite impressively, with a top speed of 135 km/h and a range of 150 km on a single charge. In addition, Raptee claims that the bike can charge up to 80% in just 45 minutes via CCS2 charging stations. While this may not seem like much when compared to its Western counterparts, it’s worth noting that India’s streets are tight and the cities are very close-knit. For a thrilling ride, the Raptee Electric Motorcycle’s engine can take the bike from 0 to 60 km/h in just 3.5 seconds.

On paper, the Raptee Electric Motorcycle’s specifications seem to mirror those of the 150cc to 200cc petrol models – considered mid-sized premium motorcycles in the context of the Indian market. Raptee Energy is preparing to produce the new bike at its huge factory. Located in Chennai, it extends over four hectares and will require an investment of around 850 million rupees (around 10 million dollars). The new facilities include an R&D center for future developments. In total, Raptee expects to produce 100,000 units a year.
