IIT M’s Plugzmart Obtains ARAI Certification for Indigenously-developed EV Charger

In a a major development in advancing an indigenous EV infrastructure in India, IIT Madras-incubated smart EV charger start-up Plugzmart, an EV charger manufacturing company, has obtained certification for its EV charger from Automotive Research Association of India (ARAI), a research institute of the Automotive Industry with Ministry of Heavy Industries, Government of India.

According to a release issued by IIT-M, this certification for Plugzmart’s 60kW DC fast charger and proprietary controller card signifies their compliance with stringent operational safety standards and efficiency norms in India.

The 60kW DC fast charger comes with its indigenously-developed Controller Module for EV chargers.

Highlighting the significance of this milestone, Vivek Samynathan, Founder and CEO of Plugzmart said that securing the ARAI certification for the 60kW DC fast charger, especially with their own controller card, is an achievement. “Our goal is to provide end-to-end solutions that not only address the current needs of the electric vehicle sector but also pave the way for future innovations in sustainable energy. By integrating smart technologies, advanced control systems, and IoT-enabled platforms, we aim to create a seamless, efficient, and scalable energy infrastructure that supports the global transition to greener and more sustainable transportation options,” he added.

Currently, Plugzmart is focused on developing high-speed DC chargers with their own controller and PLC module.

The EV charging sector is part of the broader Electric Vehicle ecosystem, which is rapidly growing in India.

As the country pushes towards cleaner energy and transportation solutions, the demand for efficient and accessible EV charging infrastructure is escalating. The sector is supported by both Government incentives and private investment, driving innovation and expansion at an unprecedented pace.
