For the first time, registrations of Hero Electric’s scooters have entered the five-digit mark, with a total of 13,022 Hero e-scooters registered across India in March.
As per vehicle registration data on the ‘VAHAN’ portal, a total of 46,569 high-speed electric 2-wheelers from the top-10 manufacturers (by volume) were registered last month, with Hero Electric on the top. Over 40,000 electric scooter sales in a month is a new record in the month.
For the record, Hero Electric, apart from having its manufacturing unit at Ludhiana, is also in a joint venture with Mahindra Electric for manufacturing electric two-wheelers. Hero’s Optima and Nyx electric scooters are being rolled out of Mahindra’s Pithampur factory.
Ola pushes Okinawa to third spot
The beleaguered Ola Electric, which had clocked just over 3,900 registrations in February, had 9,123 registrations in March. With this, it has become India’s second largest electric two-wheeler manufacturer, with the hitherto second-placed Okinawa Autotech, which had 8,284 registrations, slipping to third place. It may be recalled, that both Ola and Okinawa electric scooters were involved in unfortunate fire mishaps recently.
Ampere Vehicles, which recently linked up with Bounce Infinity to offer battery-swapping to customers, sold a total of 6,338 electric scooters. Ather Energy’s registrations for the month of March stood at 2,223 electric scooters. TVS’ iQube electric scooter witnessed a sharp rise in sales, with 2,265 units being registered. The Pune-based Pure EV had 2,065 units to show for its March efforts, Revolt Motors had 1,408 units, Benling India was at 1,013 units and Bajaj Auto in 3-digits at 825 units for its Chetak electric scooter.
The numbers for the coming months can get interesting as the sale of Bounce Infinity E1 electric scooter is set to commence this month, and Simple Energy’s One e-scooter deliveries are expected to kickoff in June.
