The Energy Efficiency Services Limited (EESL) has signed an agreement with the New Okhla Industrial Development Authority (Noida) to set up 162 public charging stations and related infrastructure.
According to the press statement issued by EESL, the partnership will aim at establishing an infrastructural ecosystem that will facilitate the wider adoption of e-mobility in the country.
EESL will provide the initial investment for the operation and maintenance of the charging infrastructure for EVs, and Noida authority will provide space for the charging infrastructure. The joint initiative is expected to save 3.7 tons of CO2 per e-car annually.
Speaking on this development, Amit Kaushik, Executive Director, EESL, said, “EVs are at the forefront of the world’s agenda to move towards a sustainable future, and EESL is proud to be progressively leading initiatives to promote EV adoption in India under its national e-mobility program. We are pleased to partner with Noida authority to co-create synergies to set up Public EV Charging Infrastructure in Noida.”
Commenting on the signing of the agreement with EESL, Ritu Maheshwari, CEO of Noida, said, “Developing a sustainable landscape with strong supporting EV infrastructure is the key to cultivating consumer confidence in EVs. This will significantly enhance consumer convenience, as well. With the increasing penetration of EVs, the local pollutants emission levels are also expected to reduce, leading to cleaner air and several public health benefits.”
According to EESL’s statement, it has so far installed 20 EV chargers in Noida, out of which 13 have been commissioned, and seven are under development.
The Noida authority has been sanctioned 162 public EV charging stations comprising 54 Bharat DC001 (15kW) and 108 122kW (50kW CCS2+ 50kW CHAdeMO+ 22kW Type2) fast chargers under the FAME India (Faster Adoption and Manufacturing of Electric Vehicles) Phase-II program.
Last year, the Noida Metro Rail Corporation (NMRC) Limited floated a tender to set up charging stations for electric vehicles along the Noida-Greater Noida Metro Corridor.
Earlier, the Indian Oil Corporation joined hands with the National Thermal Power Corporation (NTPC) to establish electric vehicle charging stations in Greater Noida.
Previously, the Department of Heavy Industries (DHI) approved 2,636 electric vehicle charging stations in 62 cities across 24 states and union territories under the second phase of the FAME India program. According to the government’s statement, nearly 106 proposals were received from the public and private entities for the deployment of approximately 7,000 EV charging stations.
In December last year, EESL had signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the South Delhi Municipal Corporation to establish the infrastructure for EVs in the SDMC area for ten years. According to the terms outlined in the MoU, the two entities will work in tandem to fast-track the adoption of e-mobility by installing 75 EV charging stations in the SDMC area.
