BMRCL Teams up with SUN Mobility to Launch EV Battery-swapping Stations in Bengaluru
In a bid to promote sustainable transportation, Namma Metro has partnered with SUN Mobility to set up battery-swapping stations at 19 metro stations in Bengaluru. This collaboration aims to enhance last-mile connectivity for commuters using electric vehicles (EVs), making it easier for them to travel to and from metro stations.
Revolutionising last-mile connectivity
The battery-swapping stations, strategically located at parking areas and auto stands, offer a convenient solution for EV users. On December 16, 2024, BMRCL Managing Director M Maheshwar Rao inaugurated the 19th station at Hoodi metro station, marking a significant step toward a cleaner, greener future for Bengaluru’s transport network.
In the past month alone, these stations have supported 19,000 EVs, helping users cover a total distance of 1,25,000 km. Each metro station serviced approximately 2,800 EVs, including 2,300 two-wheelers and 500 three-wheelers. The initiative has already proven to be a hit, with plans to expand the project across the city to further improve mobility and reduce carbon emissions.
