General Motors’ second joint venture in China, has just officially revealed the exterior design of Wuling’s upcoming all-electric sedan.
The automaker revealed the first official images of Wuling’s new fully electric sedan, showing the exterior look of the midsize vehicle that will expand its zero-emission lineup and continue the deep rebranding of GM’s best-selling marque in China. Wuling’s brand-new EV was introduced under the Chinese name ‘星光’, which more or less means ‘Starlight’ in English – without being an official name.
Wuling’s upcoming electric sedan is the first three-boxe car from the brand specializing in minibuses and commercial vans, which recently entered the passenger-car market with MPVs, minicars and crossovers bearing the new Global Silver logo. As such, the all-new Wuling 星光 or Starlight opens a new chapter in the brand’s history and becomes the largest vehicle in its EV portfolio.
Aesthetically, Wuling’s upcoming electric sedan debuts a completely new design language with modern and stylish lines that stand out from the rest of the brand’s models. The front end features a split headlamp design with a new daytime running lighting signature and sculpted shapes, creating a simple yet pleasing look that lends an aura of further refinement never before seen at Wuling.
The streamlined four-door body of Wuling’s upcoming electric sedan features a low front, clean sides and fastback rear end. This section shows particular elements such as a large sloping rear window, a trunk lid ducktail and a spoiler formed by a horizontal strip of light that connects the triangular taillamps. The car measures 190.4 inches in length, 73.2 inches in width and 59.6 inches in height, with a 110.2-inch wheelbase.
Wuling’s upcoming all-electric sedan will be launched in the coming months in China, where SGMW hopes to shake up the market again with the first zero-emission three-box car focused on the mass segment. As such, it’s quite possible that this new model will launch as the cheapest electric sedan on the Chinese market. Although there is no official powertrain data yet, rumors suggest that it will feature a 100 kW or 134-horsepower electric motor.
