The Kerala Automobiles Limited (KAL), a public sector unit has decided to venture into electric scooter manufacturing.
The state’s Industries Minister P. Rajeeve informed that KAL’s first e-scooter will be out within the next six months.
Speaking at the contract signing ceremony for the electric two-wheeler manufacturing unit to be set up at the Kinfra Park, Rajeeve said, “The initiative is expected to create direct employment for 200 persons and for more people indirectly.”
The e-scooter manufacturing unit which is being set up in association with Mumbai-based automobile manufacturing company Lord’s Mark Industries Private Limited is being set up at Rs 4.64 crore.
KAL has a 26 per cent stake in the joint venture, while Lord’s Mark holds the remaining.
During his address, the minister said that the electric auto rickshaws which were launched by KAL are getting a good response. He informed that some of the technical issues related to the auto rickshaws that were launched in the first phase had been resolved. The PSU has been receiving significant number of orders from Nepal.
