Technopark CEO Sanjeev Nair on Tuesday inaugurated a solar-powered electric vehicle (EV) charging station inside the campus. CFO Jayanthi L, general manager (projects) Madhavan Praveen, and staff members of Technopark were present on the occasion.
The new solar powered charging station is exclusive to Technopark employees.
Adhering to the state government’s vision of boosting the establishment of EV charging stations, Technopark has introduced a hybrid EV charging station powered by solar energy.
The station offers both slow and fast charging and can accommodate fast charging of one car and slow charging of a two-wheeler and a three-wheeler simultaneously. The station is equipped with advanced 16kW mono PERC half cut solar panels that efficiently harness sunlight, converting it into a clean and renewable source of energy for charging vehicles. The installation of this new charging station has taken Technopark a step closer to becoming a carbon neutral IT Park.
The EV charging station was fully designed and executed by the engineering department of Technopark. Madhavan Praveen said that the EV charging station has three sources of power viz, solar, EB, and DG, and hence, it is unique and is always under the operational phase. A fair number of vehicles can be charged at the station at a time.
The charging rates at the station are Rs 15.34 per unit for fast charging and Rs 10.61 per unit for slow charging. Technopark is set to install a hybrid electric vehicle charging station on the phase I campus. An e-tender has been floated for this work. It aims to establish the hybrid EV station by July.
With the arrival of the charging station on the most populous phase I campus at Technopark, techies will be able to charge their vehicles within the campus at a lower cost. Those who have registered early will receive their respective charging cards and they can charge their vehicles directly at the EV station.
